Tea Musings: Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice Herbal Tea

I stumbled upon this tea at the supermarket when I just browsing to see what was new. This tea isn’t new per se, but I hadn’t tried it before so I popped it into my basket. Celestial Seasonings do the ‘Sleepy Time’ tea with the adorable bear on the box (if that rings a bell?) and they’ve been around for aggges to! I had to post about this tea because it’s not like anything that I’ve tried and it’s just sooooo good!

Now the ingredients list is a little confusing… take a look!

“Cinnamon, roasted chicory, natural spice and vanilla flavours with other natural flavours, ginger, cardamom, black pepper, cloves and nutmeg.” Hmmm…. natural spice and vanilla flavours with other natural flavours? LOL whatever that refers to – it’s good!

When you smell the tea in the box, you get a hit of sweet cinnamon, but once the tea is brewed, the flavour is much deeper. It really is spicy to – I usually brew my tea for ages (I cover the tea with water and then go off to do what I gotta do, only to return quite a while later – plus I don’t like super hot tea usually) and I think that with this particular tea, the longer you brew it for, the spicier it gets! Once you sip the tea, it leaves your mouth tingling 🙂 I don’t find it unpleasant, but if you are worried, you can brew it for a shorter amount of time. While it is spicy, it’s also quite sweet – like a winters cinnamon cake, full of nutmeg, cardamon and honey etc. The box says that you can add milk or sugar to your tea, but I personally wouldn’t (it would then be incredibly sweet!). I did find it surprising that it is sweet without having to add anything to it. This is without a doubt, the perfect winters brew or for when you’re feeling adventurous and want to be warmed up on the inside 🙂

Maybe invite someone over for tea today and spread the love? 🙂
