Review: My Beauty Bunny All Natural AHA Facial Moisturiser

I tried out this moisturiser expecting it to not be anything new. While I look at ingredient lists especially when it comes to skin care, I try and not fall prey to marketing hypes and slogans such as ‘all natural’ and ‘no chemicals’ (even plant materials in their most basic compounds are technically chemicals). This moisturiser was appealing because of it’s simple but strategically chosen ingredients – and yes, they also happen to be plant based and not tested on animals – win!

The Beauty Bunny moisturiser contains AHAs, which work to refine skin texture by exfoliating the skin gently. The difference between AHAs and BHAs is that AHAs are derived from plant, fruit and milk sugars, while BHAs are compounds made by man (think salicylic acid). They both exfoliate the skin, but AHAs work best for refining skin texture and skin tone, while BHAs work best for exfoliating pores (blackheads etc) and more oily or acne prone skin (they help keep blemishes at bay). They work superbly together, but separately they target these separate issues. Since the moisturiser contains 5% of AHAs, you know that they won’t be to strong, or irritating for the skin. They will however, work gently but consistently to refine your skins texture and tone. So what else is in this moisturiser to make it special? Let’s take a look!

I loooove that this moisturiser has no unnecessary ‘fillers’. The first ingredients in the list are water (the moisturiser is oil free and water based) and aloe vera juice (soothing). We then have squalane, cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate (all derived from olives – very moisturising and also act as emulsifiers). Further down we have bilberry fruit extract, sugar cane (exfoliating), sugar maple (exfoliating), lemon and orange fruit extracts (exfoliating) and plenty of antioxidants such as amellia oleifera (white tea), camellia sinensis (green tea), and aspalathus linearis (rooibus/red tea). Pretty good huh?

I was expecting this moisturiser to be quite light on hydration as it’s oil free and it’s main task is to also exfoliate the skin. The texture of this moisturiser is very light, to the point where it’s a little runny. The surprising thing is that it is also incredibly moisturising considering the texture of the cream. I’ve been using it in the mornings when my face can be a little tight and dry and this moisturiser alleviates that tightness automatically. I don’t feel dry throughout the day and it sits wonderfully under makeup. Not only does it help moisturise and exfoliate your skin, it also helps protect your skin throughout the day thanks to its antioxidant content. The packaging says the cream has a slight grapefruit scent, but to me it smells like powdered vitamins (like those chewable vitamin C tablets, I looooved those when I was little!). It’s not overpowering at all. I definitely recommend wearing sunscreen on top of this moisturiser as AHAs and BHAs can make your skin a little more sensitive to UV rays (especially if you have sensitive skin). If you have sensitive skin, this could be a great alternative to exfoliating serums (it should help your skin to slowly adjust and become comfortable with AHAs and BHAs).

If you have oily and dehydrated skin – this baby will be your saviour! I have quite normal slash combination skin these days (I used to be very acne prone) and I love it. To hydrate your skin well, you need to first remove all of those dead skin cells so that the moisture barrier can be restored and for moisturise to penetrate deeply within the skin. I should also quickly mention, tht this moisturiser doesn’t leave my skin ‘shiny’ at all (if you have oily skin and that’s a concern for you). It almost has a powdery but soft finish. You get 100g in a convenient pump bottle (twice the amount of regular moisturisers) for $39.00 USD. To me that is VERY reasonable. My Beauty Bunny also delivers worldwide for only $10 USD. I have a feeling My Beauty Bunny (a beauty blogger) teamed up with Futurederm to produce/manufacture this moisturiser (and you know I LOVE Futurederm products!), which would explain the fab ingredients list. You will find the My Beauty Bunny All Natural AHA Facial Moisturiser here on their official website 🙂 and also at the Futurederm online shop here!

Oh, and just for the cuteness factor, here is a little Angora bunny 🙂
