Review: Eye of Horus Liquid Define Eye Liner
A little while ago, I introduced my fellow beauty bees to the wonderful Australian brand Eye of Horus! Eye of Horus specialises in eye makeup products, using ingredients that are plant derived and based on those that the ancient Egyptians actually used (like Moringa Oil – found in their mascara and also found in Tutankharmen’s tomb – cool or what?!). I loooove their mascara and eye liner – full review found here! Today I wanted to share with you a few words about their texta styled eyeliner.

My camera did not want to focus on the applicator as you can see, so I just gave up trying after a while lol

The texta styled pen applicator makes liquid eyeliner much easier to do if you are a beginner. You hold the eyeliner texta like you would a pen, so you naturally feel more comfortable if you haven’t yet mastered using a eyeliner brush. In saying that though – even the pros need a little extra help sometimes with their liquid eyeliner, so having some cotton tips on hand and a little makeup remover means you can fix up little mistake or uneven lines. It’s all about practise practise practise!
As you can see from some of the lines I drew on the back of my hand, you can achieve a nice thin line or a thicker line depending on the effect you are going for. The formula is smudge proof and the tip is reversible, which is so innovative! I haven’t tried reversing the tip (haven’t needed to yet) but apparently you can easily do it with a pair of tweezers. The eyeliner dries in seconds but this is where there’s a little bit of a problem. Once the eyeliner has dried, it can be a little difficult going over the the area again a second time if you want to thicken the line up or make a line more even. Or if you even wanna darken it a little. It means you have to be a little quick, which for some might not work. It’s hard to explain, but the eyeliner that has already been applied and dried just doesn’t seem to like new formula being applied on top. It moves a little and just doesn’t ‘stick’.

If you find the eyeliner ‘drying’ up a little while using it, I find the popping the cap back on and giving it a shake helps! It’s not the darkest eyeliner in the world and I really really wanted to love it with all my heart, but I’m just not sure how I feel about it. It’s good – but it’s not great. Perhaps a nice classic and subtle thin line would work best as you don’t need to play around with the shape to much etc. The formula doesn’t have to many ingredients (like the mascara) and formula should be superb for those with sensitive eyes! Here are the ingredients –
Aqua, Acrylate Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Methylisothiazolinone, Butylcarbamate, CI 77266
You can be sure to know what’s in Eye of Horus products and that’s one of the top reasons to love them! If you are looking for pen/texta form of liquid liner this may be gold for you 🙂 Especially if your a little scared of messing liquid liner up. I have a feeling that the things that make this liner maybe a little imperfect, are because all the ingredients are plant based and because they are limited- but in a good way. I guess you can’t always have everything – but in saying that I’m still in love with their mascara and eyeliners!
You can buy the Eye of Horus liner from the beauty bees at Eye of Horus here for 30 gold coins (Australian gold coins!). I have a Eye of Horus eyeshadow palette of 3 shadows that I’ve been playing with and I can tell you now that they are FAB. But I will do a full review of those for you soon. So stay tuned! 😀
