Review: Antipodes Worship Skin Defence Antioxidant Serum
A little while ago, I received a goodie bag from Priceline – you know those promotions where you spend over a certain amount and then you get a mix of products to try, be it skincare, haircare etc. Anyhoo, so in my bag there was a 10ml deluxe sample of Antipodes Worship Skin Defence Antioxidant Serum. I have generally really enjoyed every Antipodes product I have tried (I have reviewed their Manuka Honey Skin-Brightening Day Cream, Kiwi Seed Lip Conditioner, Grace Gentle Cream Cleanser and often mention the Juliet Brightening Gel Cleanser as it’s a staple of mine!) so was eager to give this guy a try. Now I use a vitamin C & E serum each and every morning, to protect my skin from pigmentation and oxidative stress, but I did wonder if using another antioxidant rich serum in morning, so layering the serums, would be overkill…. I can’t give up my morning vitamin C & E serum, I just love actives too much but I was determined to try the Worship Skin Defence Antioxidant Serum. Low and behold, I loved the effect it had on my skin, so I went out and purchased the full sized serum 🙂

I decided to apply the serum after my vitamin C & E serum. Why? Vitamin C is technically an acid, and any acid or chemical exfoliant should be applied to the skin first. I decided to apply 4-5 drops of the Worship Serum into the palm of my hand and then press my palms together before pressing my hands (and thus serum) onto my face. The serum has this interesting thick consistency – it’s almost like fruit pulp in it’s look and scent (fruity!). It isn’t sticky in the slightest bit and sinks into the skin beautifully, leaving it hydrated and plump. It does have this interesting dark red/purple colour, but this disappears after application. I would recommend rinsing your hands after applying the serum though, as the serum residue on your hands can come off onto towels etc.

The first time you use the serum, you might be surprised at it’s colour and consistency. It does look a little ‘funky’. But never fear! It’s super pleasant to use and smells like REAL fruit juice. Pulp and all 🙂
I really didn’t expect this serum to do anything ‘visible’ for me. So what did it do? I think it has significantly reduced the redness in my skin, inflammation and looked generally well rested. I found that my skin during the day was more comfortable and seemed to handle ‘stress’ or different environments (changes in temperature for example) MUCH better. If my skin is more comfortable and there’s less inflammation, that has to help my acne heal better. I use the FutureDerm CE Caffeic Silk 16+2 Serum in the mornings to protect my skin from sun damage (paired with sunscreen of course) and pigmentation. Vitamin E and C ‘recharge’ each other to keep working for longer. PLUS the Futurederm serum is micro encapsulated, so it’s active ingredients are slowly released in the epidermis. I’d like to think that the Worship serum protects my skin against pollution and other stressors out there. I’ve been reading a lot about the effects of pollution and smog on skin, and the news isn’t good… I’ve decided I will do a separate post on that subject, so I won’t bang on about to much here 🙂 At the end of the day, the more varied antioxidants you use in the morning before starting your day, the better 🙂 The serum also doesn’t leave the skin shiny or make it oily. I guess that’s why Antipodes say it’s particularly good for oily skin. Because the serum isn’t ‘slippy’, it also sits really well under makeup.

Above: Some of the products I am using in the morning at the moment 🙂
The price of the serum fall in that mid-range category I think. It costs $54 Aus dollars regularly, but you can wait and get it for $43.20 when Priceline has a discount of 20% going for the entire Antipodes range (thats $10 cheaper than usual – yippee!). You get your standard ‘serum size’ of product – 30ml. I like that it’s housed in a dark glass jar, to help reduce UV rays spoiling the formula. As with all ‘green beauty products’ you do have to use the product up relatively quickly, I probably use the serum up faster than I do others, just because it has that thicker texture. I also apply it quite liberally, so in that sense it’s not el cheapo. You could definitely use it on it’s own in the mornings, as your only serum, as it still packs a punch antioxidant wise. Antipodes state that the serum reduces oxidative stress by 90%, which is phenomenal. Just remember that the tests were carried out in a lab, in perfect conditions, so out and about the effects are probably less. Even so, that’s a pretty darn good result! Paired with sunscreen in the morning, it’ll be a kick ass combo!
I don’t think products are better if they are marketed as being ‘all natural’ and ‘non-toxic’ but I really like Antipodes products because I do see a positive effect on my skin! I also like the idea of supporting our Kiwi neighbours 🙂 I can see this serum being perfect for Beauties of all ages, with different skin types. Antioxidants are beneficial for all – maybe even more so when you are older, as your skin’s defence mechanisms need all the help they can get (ageing slows down these processes). Teens could use this serum, as well as their 40/50 plus mums 🙂
Are you have fan of Antipodes skincare Beauties? Is the Worship serum one you would like to try? I will try and get my post on the effects of pollution and smog on skin, up as soon as possible. Stay tuned 😉
