Bringing the South Pacific to YOU! Pure Fiji’s Coconut Sugar Rub 🥥🌴🌺

I reviewed this body scrub back in 2013… and because I still LOVE it, I thought I’d update the review by reviewing it again ❤️💛🥥 I especially love it in these weird and tough times, when we can’t travel and are ‘home bound’. So can you bring the Pacific Islands to you??? YES! You sure can! Well, at least a little piece of the islands 🇫🇯 🌴 🌴 🌴 ☀️

Pure Fiji is an amazing ‘spa’ brand. They create skincare, hair and body care products that make you feel like you have visited a spa – a spa in a resort, in Fiji – looking after your body and soul 🏖🌺 They harness local ingredients and make the products in Fiji, to help boost the local economy and ‘give back’ to the island. They also only use ingredients that are ethically and sustainably sourced. Most of their products contain their signature four oil blend’ which includes: virgin coconut oil, Dilo oil, sikeci oil and macadamia nut oil. This time honoured blend has been used for centuries in the Pacific as a therapeutic remedy and also as a daily ritual moisturising, nourishing and protecting skin and hair.

The Coconut Sugar Rub is my favourite body scrub for many reasons. It does a phenomenal job of exfoliating and moisturising your skin at the same time. It comes in 13 different ‘scents’ – so you will no doubt, find one that takes your imagination and mind elsewhere (to wherever you want to be!). To find out how this wonderful body scrub works, keep on reading 🤓

The Beauty of ‘Sugar Scrubs’

The Coconut Sugar Rub is a sugar scrub. Made from cane sugar, the granules/sugar crystals are quite a bit larger than the regular sugar you keep in your pantry. This makes it perfect for exfoliating dead skin cells on your body. I prefer sugar scrubs over salt scrubs, as I find salt can really sting and sometimes irritate my skin (they get into every nook and cranny, but are then more difficult to wash off because the particles are so small).

These crystals are the perfect ‘roughness’ – using a ‘tougher’ hand and more pressure to work the scrub into your skin, you get an amazing massage and ‘friction’ between your skin and the scrub. It doesn’t hurt at all – it’s not as rough as salt can be or even dry body brushing. It’s a ‘roughness’ that is pleasurable if that makes sense – it gets your circulation going and relaxes your muscle (like a body massage!). Hence I prefer this scrub over a coffee scrub any day. The less pressure you use of course, the gentler the exfoliation, but you will still get rid of all unwanted dead skin cells. The sugar crystals melt slowly, but you don’t have to rush – the won’t melt immediately when in contact with water (or damp skin) which can happen when sugar scrub crystals are fine and small.

Cane sugar in particular, is a great source of glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid). It penetrates skin cells, draws moisture into the skin (like humectants do) and leaves your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated. I think this is why your skin remains feels so soft and hydrated, even after the oils from the scrub have ‘worn off’ your skin (more about the oils in a minute!). You won’t get this effect using other scrubs that rely on physical exfoliation only.

Four Oil Blend

The four oils in the Sugar Coconut Rub is Pure Fiji’s special oil mixture of virgin coconut oil, Dilo nut oil, macadamia nut oil and sikeci nut oil. The scrub has a rich, oil base, which does solidify in lower temperatures. In cooler conditions, you need to place the tub in warm water and wait for the scrub to liquify so you can easily scoop out the product. The rich oils remain on your skin even after rinsing the scrub. Beauties who don’t like oily residues won’t like this body scrub. I on the other hand, LOVE this ‘after effect’. Skin is left feeling so supple and highly moisturised. You certainly do not need to moisturise after your bath or shower if you have used the Sugar Coconut Rub. You can, but I don’t, because there’s just no need.

With other body scrubs that contain an oil ‘base’ – I find that the oil remains on the skin for a little while, but ‘rubs’ off the skin quickly, leaving it feels exposed and more dry than before. This happens when oils form an occlusive barrier on the skin – they don’t draw moisture into the skin, they only create a ‘seal’. If our skin is super dry to begin with, oil based products will only help relive your dry skin temporarily, sometimes making your skin feel even more dry afterwards. I don’t find I get this effect with this oil based sugar scrub because cane sugar is used (the aha’s draw moisture into the skin!).

Delicious Scents

There is a whooping 13 scent varieties of this scrub to chose from. The base and formula of all the scrubs is the same – it’s just the fragrance in each that differ. The scents are to die for – they are intoxicating, delicious and really transform your bathroom into a private oasis 🏝 My favourite scent by far is the ‘Starfruit Infusion’. Starfruit from memory (and I don’t eat it very often I admit) doesn’t have a strong scent, but this infusion is sweet but incredibly fresh smelling at the same time. The sweetness is balanced and makes me feel amazing whether it is Summer or Winter. I absolutely adore this scent and think that it would appeal to most Beauties.

The other infusions that I have tried is Guava; nice but very fruity and very sweet, Milk & Honey; the honey tones are more noticeable, so again it’s a creamy yet distinctly sweet scent and Moringa; a new infusion and range that I am also in love with 💚 Moringa has a slight hint of citrus but is also floral and sweet. Moringa is a very sophisticated, balanced and unique scent. Scents are so difficult describe, so apologies for my poor attempt lol but the Starfruit and Moringa Infusions are my pick because they are so unique. I would still like to try Passionflower, Coconut Lime Blossom and Noni.

All the scent infusions are available across the line of body and haircare products offered by Pure Fiji, so think: body wash, bath milk, body oil, body butter, body lotion, body mist, hand cream, shampoo, conditioner, soaps etc. Or almost all the products – certainly the body care products.

Value

You get a little plastic scoop with your Coconut Sugar Rub and Pure Fiji says that one scoop should be enough product for your entire body. I usually end up using my hands to scoop out the scrub, unless it’s Winter time and the scrub is a little more solid. I most certainly use more than one scoop per use, because I want a more coarse scrub all over (this is a personal preference) so with this in mind, I probably get about 6-8 uses out of the 457ml generous tub. One tub costs $49.95 AUD via Pure Fiji’s Australian online shop. Pure Fiji offers free shipping for orders above $95 AUD.

Pure Fiji also has online shops shipping to the Czech Republic, Fiji, Korea, New Zealand, UK and US. You may be able to find Pure Fiji at a local beauty salon even in other corners of the world, so it may be worth sending them an email if you live in a country not mentioned in the above list or if you want to find a local stockist in a bricks and mortar store.

Final Thoughts

This is a beauty product that I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase for a friend as a gift, because I love it so much and want to spread Pure Fiji’s love around! I will certainly purchase it again 💛💚 It’s also a brand I like to get behind because of their values (sustainability is important to them as is supporting social development in Fiji) and because their products help your senses come alive, as well as treating your body with quality ingredients.

Create a ‘Home Spa’

I think we all need a little relaxation these days, so creating our own little spa at home is certainly a form of self-care. This is something I am going to try and do more often (looking after my bod and soul) 🙏🛁🕯🌺 🥥🌴 Never underestimate the power of turning an everyday event or ‘chore’ into a little ritual, where you can really focus on the moment, looking after yourself, spending more time and detail on the actions you are performing (no rushing!). It might just be the PERFECT way to let your mind take a bit of ‘mental break’… You might only have 20 minutes, but make every minute count and your mental health will thank you! ❤️🌺
