All About Brows 👩🏼‍🦰👩🏾👩🏼‍🦱

Finally let’s talk about makeup – and a makeup topic/category I almost never mention…. brows! Why do I almost never talk about brows and brow products? I have blonde hair and am very fair. I have brows and all (they aren’t invisible, so I lucked out here) and yes I get that they frame the face, but it’s not a part of my face that stands out a lot and that’s how I like to keep it. I have a pretty well defined arch but my brows are soft and I like that.

Brows both in their shape and colour are genetically determined (have a look at your parents brows or even grandparents to find yours lol!) and since we are all different, brow trends just like all makeup trends, might not suit you. I say work with the shape that you have – it’s probably well proportioned for your face and facial characteristics. I like that bigger brows are in – we aren’t over plucking them anymore and not changing the shape too drastically. Keep them neat and fill them in where needed! The following products have worked for me and the shades will work for blondes, but I don’t profess to be an expert in this area (or any for that matter ha!). There’s a couple of products down below that I love and one that I wouldn’t purchase again. Read on to find out more 😊

Let’s start with pencils! I have three, one from Benefit, NYX and Golden Rose. They are all pretty different, so you will probably find one that you like out of these three!

Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil

A creamy, pigmented micro brow pencil for drawing natural brow hairs.Want to build a beautiful, natural brow look? Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil helps you build full, natural-looking brows effortlessly in no time flat. The superfine tip of Precisely, My Brow Pencil creates light, short strokes that mimic the look of natural brow hairs.

A very fine tip eyebrow pencil that doesn’t need to be sharpened because the tip is already so super fine. I have the colour 01 Light but there are 8 shades in total to pick from. It’s nice that the two lightest shades are for blondes, the first (01 Light) is for cool light blondes, while the second (02 Light) is for warm golden blondes. If you have light or cool blonde hair, you need a colour which is ashy and almost a very, very light brown, that will still give your brows some definition – otherwise what’s the point right?! While I love that fine point of this brow pencil and the fact that the formula is super long lasting, my gripe with it is that the pencil hardens over time. So much so that I find it difficult to apply and show in my brows. I get that the formula of the pencil needs to be harder if you want the pigment in the pencil to last in your brows, but it’s so hard that sometimes it either hurts my skin when I am trying to get it to apply. I don’t really reach for it anymore, which is such a shame because I loved this pencil when I first got it. However – if it sounds like this is the product for you – get the mini version of the pencil first! I feel like I could have gotten more out of the pencil if I had the mini version and if it hardened up over time, I wouldn’t be wasting quite as much product… The full sized pencil gives you 8g of product for $43 bucks. The mini gives you 0.4g (does that sound right?!) of product for $23 bucks. Oh and there’s a spooly on the end of the full sized pencil, for brushing out your brows 😊

Golden Rose Eyebrow Powder Pencil

Giving your brows the perfect shape with a soft and powdery formula, the Golden Rose Eyebrow Powder Pencil is great for beginners. Define and shape the brows in seconds.

I wasn’t sure whether to include this product because it’s not easy to find here in Aus and probably in other countries around the world, but hey, you never know where you might come across it right?! Especially on the internet! Golden Rose is a Turkish brand of cosmetics and the brand is massively popular in Poland. So much so, you can walk into almost any shopping centre and find a pop up counter to buy from. They are also easily available via Polish drugstore websites, which is where I sourced my pencil from. They have an International website and you can pick which currency you want to pay in (including Aus dollars!) but the webshop is super limited – the products and colours available are few in number ☹️😓 I have no idea why.

Golden Rose is so popular because they sell incredibly affordable makeup that is wonderful quality and this pencil is no exception! 🌟 It is literally a pencil that is essentially a powder eyeshadow for your eyebrows in a stick form! Lol! So it is super handy to travel with. I actually do my eyebrows for work on the train – since I don’t do a lot with them, I do all my makeup ‘finishing touches’ on the train, so products need to be travel friendly and portable. The powder is super soft – so you get some colour in your brows but it’s diffused and subtle. You can build it up of course, but it allows you to add colour to your brows by subtly defining the shape. I then usually go over them with a gel or another defining product. I don’t have the lightest shade of the Powder Pencil (the lightest is #101 Blonde) but I have the second lightest which is #102 Sable. Sable is still a very light ashy brown – perfect for light blondes. On the second end of the pencil you also get a spooly! 😄 You do need to sharpen the pencil (eventually I’m sure lol) and no sharpener is provided, just a note. I bought my pencil from Minti Shop, which has 6 shades of the pencil. On the international website they have 3 shades available (why?!?) and the pencil costs between $6-8 dollars, depending on the currency you choose. Super cheap and I love it! 🥰

NYX 3 in 1 Brow Pencil

One unbeatable brow beautifier, three go-to goodies. Our versatile 3-in-1 Brow includes everything you need to build exquisite arches. A retractable pencil, Powder, and brow mascara, available in 10 pigmented shades. Achieve eyebrows that are as natural-looking or bold as you desire by applying these essentials alone or together.o combine ’em all, simply outline with the pencil and fill in with the Powder. Complete the look by setting your brows with a swipe of mascara.

This is the biggest ‘pencil’ of all, but it does combine three brow products into one! This guy is a ‘pencil’ (or a brow definer), a powder and a mascara which provides brows with colour and hold. I originally bought it for my mum when we were browsing in Priceline (a drugstore) and then ended up buying myself one too 😊 The pencil is almost like a creamy pomade, it’s incredibly soft and long lasting. It doesn’t have a defined point but because it’s so soft and pliable, this doesn’t bother me. As you use it, I think you can get a sharp edge or two. You won’t be able to draw on fine individual hairs, but it gives brows shape and definition. I love the colour too – I have the lightest shade in ‘blonde’, which is quite similar to the Golden Rose Powder Pencil shade. The powder is also nice and is the same colour as the pencil. You apply the powder via this semi pointed/round sponge applicator and I like it. I think it’s precise enough for a powder. I have a feeling that you don’t get a lot of product because it’s a three in one ‘pencil slash tool’ thing. It says you get 0.2g of pencil, 0.32g of powder and 1.9ml of mascara/gel. If you do your brows everyday, you will probably run out of product quickly if this is your ‘go to’.

What about the mascara slash gel for your brows? Here’s the positive – it provides some colour and nice hold. BUT… the colour is completely wrong and doesn’t match the shade of the pencil or powder. For this blonde colour, I find the colour to be actually a medium brown. What the?! I’m not sure if they are so miss-matched with the other shades, maybe with the darker options, the shade of the mascara/gel doesn’t stand out that much, but for this blonde shade it does. I won’t be using it, so there’s a negative there. 2 out of 3 is still ok in my books though…. especially for my mum who would use the product only ‘every now and then’. I bought my 3 in 1 Brown Pencil from Priceline for $23.95. I’m sure you can wait until it goes on sale though 😉 There are 8 shades in total, which is great!

Different thicknesses and textures for the win!

After defining my brows with a pencil, I move onto my fibre gel, to give my brows hold and to look fluffy and thicker! In comes… Model Co’s More Brows!

Model Co More Brows

Achieve bolder and natural looking brows with MORE BROWS, perfect for those who want to give the illusion of fuller brows with a quick-dry gel formula that contains hair-like particles. MORE BROWS is a quick-dry gel formula that contains hair-like particles to create the appearance of fuller, more even eyebrows in one application. When applied onto your natural arches, MORE BROWS helps to extend, re-shape and thicken your eyebrows. Perfect for women with naturally sparse or over-plucked arches, MORE BROWS will take your brows to wow in seconds.

This is a product that is pretty much a direct copy of Benefit’s Gimme Brow! The fact that Model Co’s version is SO much cheaper, it’s a winner for me 😂😅 It’s a gel that provides hold and some light colour, but mostly it attaches little fibres to your brows to make them look fuller and give more definition. It’s super natural and easy, so there’s no real way to stuff it up. Winning! Ok, maybe if you added way too much product you would end up with clumpy and sticky brows, so one or two swipes MAX is all you need. The brush is super small so it’s easy to control. I like that I can brush it through my brows to make my brows look neat but also give them definition in one go. It also works brilliantly on it’s own and will make you look polished in no time. You can see the fibres on the brush, they almost look like you’ve dropped the wand and it was covered in cat fur or something LOL

The only negative is that there are only two shade options – Light Medium and Medium Dark. Light Medium works brilliantly with my colour brows. Sure, it might darken them a smidge, but nothing super noticeable or artificial (not like the NYX brow gel… 😒😂). On the other hand Benefit’s Gimmer Brows comes in 8 shades. Gimme brows does cost $43 bucks though, compared to $12-16 for Model Co’s More Brows. You know which I choose 😅  Plus it’s an Australian brand I think 🤔You can pick up More Brows from Woolworths for $12 or from the Model Co website for $16. It’s available in a variety of places online, so it shouldn’t be hard to find. Adore Beauty used to stock Model Co, but not anymore 😞

Benefit Ka-Brow

Lock brows down for a perfect-all-day-long look with Benefit Ka-Brow! This richly pigmented brow pomade adds colour, shape, and structure to brows, defining your look and framing the face for a streamlined, chic appearance.Simply pop the built-in angled brush out of the lid and brush on Ka-Brow! in small, short strokes to give your brows a boost of boldness that enhances your look. This long-lasting pomade whips brows into shape instantly, allowing you to rock the full brows of your dreams without a single worry about touch-ups. Just say the magic word: Ka-Brow!

On days where I am doing my makeup entirely at home (so not working) I like to sometimes use Benefit’s Ka-Brow. It’s the first brow pomade that I’ve used and I must admit that they’ve made it pretty easy! You get a really decent slanted brush with the pomade which is awesome. It’s small but I think it’s still comfortable to use. Benefit describes the product as a gel-cream. To me it’s a thickish cream. The pomade is very pigmented but really ‘pliable’ at the same time. I have the colour ’01 Light’. It’s the exact same shade as the Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil in 01 Light. A very light ashy brown.

I have to admit that I probably do my brows in a made up way, in that, I don’t follow any specific technique. I use the brush and the pomade to add some definition to my brow starting from the inner part where your brow starts. I ‘draw in’ some brows vertically where they aren’t very visible and the I use the pomade at the ends – the ‘tails’ – of my brows to also give them definition. I mostly leave the centre parts of my brows alone when using the pomade, as those parts of my brows are quite full. Benefit give you some great pointers if you’re not an expert like me 😉 I just follow the natural shape of my brow line – so if you need to, you can always get your brows professionally shaped if you are too scared to do this yourself. Do note that if you use too much product, it can go clumpy, so less is definitely more. I’ve had the pomade for months now and it hasn’t changed texture thankfully. It should last me for aggggges! You get 3g of product for $43 (plus the brush). You can also buy a mini version for $23 and you still get a free mini brush! The mini versions probably end up being more expensive in the long run, but if you are really unsure of what colour to buy, you can find Benefit counters at some Myer stores or buy the mini if you don’t think you will use the pomade very often. Even though the full sized version is ‘small’ it will last you a very long time.

On the left is a photo of my natural brow and on the right, a brow I filled in using the Golden Rose Eyebrow Powder Pencil and Model Co’s More Brows. I think my brows look good and fuller! 😜 What do you think? I definitely focus more on my brows now than I did a few years ago. I’ve enjoyed trying different products but I think I’ve found a good core group of ‘staples’. I don’t get my brows professionally shaped – I just use tweezers to generally ‘tidy up’ stray hairs. My brows probably are thicker than they were a few years ago, but the general shape hasn’t changed I don’t think. Fuller brows definitely look more ‘youthful’! If anything it’s just the ‘tails’ of my brows which are thicker and definitely aren’t symmetrical. This doesn’t bother me toooo much.

That’s it Beauties! Have you tried any of the products I’ve mentioned? Are brows a central part of your makeup routine? Let me know!

Catch ya next time,

Beauty Bee~
