A Summer Must Have: Le Tan Cool It! Hydra-Infusion After Sun Replenishing Face Mask ๐Ÿ–โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‰

Happy New Year Beauties! I took a bit of a break from the blog and โ€˜lifeโ€™ over the Christmas and New Years period. Itโ€™s taking me a little longer than expected to get back โ€˜into the swing of thingsโ€™, but Iโ€™m certainly looking ahead to a more considered 2020 and that includes all my beauty related purchases. I want to use up all the products just sitting in my stash, with the goal of saving money but also being less wasteful. I will do a skincare routine post sometime soon (I promise!) as well as an inventory of sorts so I know exactly what products I have. But first things first, I wanted to do a review of a summer mask that has saved my butt this summer! I wanted to do this review well before summer is over for obvious reasons ๐Ÿ˜‰ย So let me introduce you to the Le Tan Cool It! Hydra Infusion After Sun Replenishing Face Mask (what a mouthfulโ€ฆ) ๐Ÿ’ฆย From here on in, I will refer to the mask as the After Sun Mask to keep things simple ๐Ÿ˜…

Le Tan is an Australian suncare brand, offering sunscreens and self-tanning products since their inception in 1977. Itโ€™s very โ€™70sโ€™ to be all about getting a tan (especially in Australian beach culture) so the brands name definitely reflects that history. Luckily, we have all gotten a bit smarter and sun protection is a staple for the beach. โ€˜Suncareโ€™ is not only about sun protection but also faking a tan and after sun cooling & soothing products.

Le Tanโ€™s sunscreens are a staple in any pharmacy or supermarket across Australia. I stumbled across their After Sun Mask one day when browsing the suncare isle in Priceline. After sun creams are usually a staple in most suncare lines, but I was surprised to see a dedicated face mask in the Le Tan range. Sheet masks have been trending for the last couple of years, so maybe it shouldnโ€™t be a big surprise but it still was for me as I havenโ€™t seen other After Sun sheet masks before. Sure, you can easily use any hydrating mask after sun exposure and still get good results because skin exposed to the sun is usually parched (dehydrated) thanks to your lipid barrier being broken down โ€“ thank you sun, wind and salt water! ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จย But in saying that, after sun products should be all about soothing your skin, cooling it down whilst providing your skin with targeted humectants for hydration. I canโ€™t remember why I bought a few of the masks when I spotted them in Priceline because Iโ€™m not that into sheet masks (mostly for environmental factors โ€“ so much packagingโ€ฆ.but also because I forget to use them when they are put away in my beauty cupboard) but maybe I thought they might come in handyโ€ฆ and they did! I took them with me recently on a trip to Byron Bay and they were a life saver!

WARNING: Avoid contact with eyes. Test on small area of skin. If irritation occurs discontinue use. Do not expose babies less than 6 months old to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear protective clothing, hats & eyewear when exposed to the sun. Store below 30 degrees.

The Le Tan Cool It! mask is designed to restore skinโ€™s hydration (thank you glycerin!), sooth & calm (vitamin B5, cucumber & chamomile extract), nourish & repair (tea tree & witch hazel reduce inflammation) and instantly cool. When I got to Byron Bay I popped these masks into the fridge. The packaging of the Cool It! mask is foil, which insulates the mask from heat keeping it fresh for longer, but it also cools down very quickly and holds the cold, so after only a few minutes in the fridge the serum infused mask will be super cold and refreshing.

While I didnโ€™t get sunburnt on my Byron Bay holiday, one of my friends did. The environmental elements in summer as so severe in Australia, that even if you use sunscreen responsibly, applying the recommend amount and reapplying regularly, your skin can still be dehydrated and sensitised as a result. So after m first full day the beach in Byron Bay, I popped one of these masks on and gave another to my sunburnt friend. My sunburnt friend already had some skin peeling on her nose (a reflection of seriously dehydrated skin). Not only did the masks feel WONDERFULLY cooling after being in the fridge, they did work to sooth and hydrate the skin incredibly well! I believe these sheet masks are made from cotton (maybe a cotton silk blend?) which arenโ€™t the very best at helping ingredients absorb into the skin (the best material you can get for sheet masks is bio-cellulose) but even so, after removing the mask after about 20minutes, my skin felt soothed and hydrated for hours afterwards. My skin was plump, refreshed and well hydrated. I didnโ€™t feel any dryness or itchiness. What about my friend? Not only had the redness in her skin subsided, he nose stopped peeling! Thatโ€™s pretty remarkable.

After removing the mask, I massaged the remaining serum into my skin. I then applied a hydrating moisturiser, to lock all that goodness in and prevent TWL (trans-epidermal water loss โ€“ kinda like evaporation!).ย Tip I then bunch up the sheet mask and wipe my neck and chest area. The sheet mask will still be damp with the hydrating and soothing โ€˜serumโ€™, so you should get some of this serum deposited on the skin. I also scoop out any remaining serum in the packet itself, and rub it into my legs or any areas on my body which are feeling dry or sore.

The mask does contain fragrance but it isnโ€™t OTT. Itโ€™s a very subtle fresh scent (cucumber maybe? ๐Ÿฅ’). Just something to keep in mind in case your skin doesnโ€™t tolerate fragrances well.

Le Tan manufactures these sheet masks in Korea (the capital of sheet mask genius in the world!) which might explain why they work so well. The sheet mask itself is quite large so it should โ€˜fitโ€™ comfortably on most faces. When sheet masks arenโ€™t made from bio-cellulose (which is pricey) they doesnโ€™t sit exactly flat on the skin in every place. Thatโ€™s also one fo the reasons I donโ€™t absolutely love sheet masks. Because the formula of this mask is so good I can put up with this. Be warned also, to not leave the mask on for so long that it dries out whilst applied to your skin. If it has dried out, thereโ€™s a large chance that it has sucked moisture out of your skin and could leave it more dehydrated (and thus irritated) than it was originally ๐Ÿ˜ฑย Not goodโ€ฆ If for whatever reason you leave the mask on for 30 or 40 minutes, you should be fine.

You could easily use these masks even if you havenโ€™t been out in the sun (very smart of you btw! ๐Ÿ˜‰) and your skin just happens to be dehydrated or irritated. I bought some additional masks recently, and they have an expiry date of April 2020, so I will be using my masks even if I donโ€™t end up going to the beach 5 more times this summer (yes, I stocked up on these babies recently ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚). The Cool It! After Sun masks retail for $7.99 or $8 AUD. Pretty pricey right? But you can always wait to purchase the masks when they go on sale at Priceline or Chemist Warehouse. When I stocked up on them, they were half price at Chemist Warehouse!ย $4 a pop is much more reasonableโ€ฆ I couldnโ€™t find them listed online via the Priceline website, but I did originally purchase them there, so some stores must carry them.

Thatโ€™s it Beauties! The Cool It! mask is a must have for me this summer. Itโ€™s a great quality sheet mask, even for those who arenโ€™t die-hard fans of the โ€˜sheet mask fadโ€™ because the ingredients and serum formula contained within the masks is so great! ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŒŸย I highly recommend them for any beach and outdoor loving Beauties or even those with parched skin โ€“ especially if you are going away on holidays. Another bonus of the sheet mask is that they are light, very portable and convenient.

Would you pick this mask up Beauties? Are Sheet Masks a big part of your routine?

Catch ya next time!
