Book Review: Makeup by Liz Kelsh

Ahhh makeup books – how I love thou 😀 <3 There’s something special about makeup books. Not only can you flick through the pages, touch the photographs, soak up the scent of the ink (oh yes!) but they are also primarily written by industry super weights. They are a gold mine of information you can’t usually find anywhere else. Liz Kelsh is a makeup artist who originally hails from Ireland. She has now settled in Aus, after a long career working on fashion shows, magazine edit

Nails of the Day: OPI’s Push & Pur-Pull

I’ve noticed that bright purple nail polishes are difficult to do. Even though I love the L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Vernis nail polishes, even their purple (Atomic Purple #829) nail polish was not crash hot. When I saw OPI’s neon collection (for summer 2014), I thought the nail polishes looked seriously fun! I originally just wanted to buy the shade Life Gave Me Lemons (a citrus colour somewhere in-between a lime and lemon lol) but then I gave in and bought the purple shade and

Review: Dr Jackson 02 Skin Cream (Night Cream)

I have to admit that the first time I saw the Dr Jackson 02 Skin Cream, I wanted to buy it purely for it’s aesthetics lol The cream is housed in an old school, heavy glass, pharmacy bottle. Back in the early days of skin care, if you wanted an ‘ointment’ for your face, you would have to go see your local pharmacist who would then mix something up for you. Funnily enough, technically this still happens – the ingredients of the skin care products you own at home may have been m

Beauty Blush Playground No. 5: Chanel Blush #71 Malice

I’d never owned a Chanel blush until recently. I kept seeing Chanel’s blush in Malice pop up on different blogs because even though it is a permanent blush colour in their range, it was repromoted in their current summer campaign. I looooved it from the moment I saw photos of it – it reminded me of a muted pink-red sunset! Now it’s not summer just yet in Sydney, but we can dream right? 🙂 I wouldn’t usually spend so much on a blush – but I did secretly want to see what all th

Beauty Blush Playground No. 3: MAC Blush in Full of Joy

Today on the blush carousel we have a MAC blush in the colour of grape fairy floss <3 I don’t have to many MAC blushes, but when I do buy a MAC blush, I tend to go for the more unusual colours. I was expecting Full of Joy to be a pinky-lilac satin blush – a little different but not majorly so. It turns out it is a frost finish and much more lilac-y than I expected. In saying this, it’s surprisingly wearable. When I say it’s a frost finish – it doesn’t actually have any chunky

    Makeup Look: Green Overcast

I felt like using a pop of green today and pairing it with a few shades of grey to match this winters day 🙂 The more you smoke out the grey, the more dramatic the eye look gets, so it’s very easy to take it up a notch should you want to! Oh and I LOVE that I have managed to use only mattes in this eyeshadow look (except for a teeny tiny bit of Urban Decays Venus eyeshadow from their Basics palette, in the corner of my eye, but it’s very subtle and more satin-y rather than sh

Guest Post: Secrets to a Healthy and Beautiful Italian Life

Today I have a special guest post for you beauties by EttaSimo (aka Simonetta Marino) an Italian blogger in love with travel and food – so the essentials really! 🙂 I hope you enjoy and start dreaming about your Italian-Roman getaway, because I know I am! I take care of my skin every day, trying to choose the products that best meet my needs. Also, I am very fussy about my diet. I do believe in the expression “You are what you eat” and think that food has deep influence on ou

Nails of the Day: Road House Blues

I felt like going for a classic ‘nail look’ today and luckily on hand I had a new nail polish – OPI’s Road House Blues <3 It’s a gorgeous navy blue – opaque, shiny and intense in colour. I’ve had a longing to travel recently, but as I can’t go anywhere anytime soon this nail polish will have to do! It’s name reminds me of good ol’ country music! I would so go on a musical road trip in the States! *sigh I’ll keep dreaming on… *Update* This nail polish goes on quite thickly – i

Nails of the Day: Black Diamond & Vendome Emerald

Another nail combination for you today beauties 🙂 My nail polish obsession continues and I have two L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Vernis shades for you – no. 849 which is called Vendome Emerald (which is actually more of a jade green rather than emerald) and no. 840 Black Diamond. If someone can let me know what Vendome is, I would be grateful (google translate really let me down, so I have no idea)! Vendome Emerald is a gorgeous jade green, which goes on opaquely and oh so smooth

Review: Stila’s In the Light Eye Shadow Palette

So today, Sydney feels like this: It’s 14 degrees today, which may sound not toooo bad – but, there’s a difference between a dry cold and a moist cold. We get the ‘moist’ kind, so because there’s lots of moisture in the air, it feels colder than it actually is. I remember when I was in Europe and it would be below zero, it was cold but it was bearable because the air was so dry. Oh and it’s raining and it’s windy. Just awful. Ok, so now that I complained for a bit, let’s move

Nails of the Day: Essie’s Stylenomics

I don’t own many Essie nail polishes – I think I own a few Essie light pinks in my collection, but no colours that blew me away or that are exciting. I received this little mini polish from Adore Beauty, as part of a luxe sample pack (a gift with purchase they were running). First of all, mini nail polishes are just the CUTEST! Considering that I *almost* never finish a whole bottle of nail polish, they seem to be pretty economical also. The colour I received was Styleconomic

Review: Origin’s Peace of Mind on the Spot Relief

I discovered this product thanks to Splishsplasch (another great Australian beauty blogger!) and it came at such a perfect moment. I get a lot of headaches (migraines to be specific) and this week has been relentless… A busy schedule, stress at home and one headache after another. When I read Splishsplasch’s comments on Origin’s Peace of Mind Spot Relief, that it calms her down and allows her to stay positive, clear headed and focused, I figured that I had to buy it and try i

Review: Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in PK 365

I don’t own a lot of mid-toned Pink lipsticks, so I thought I would buy myself something online. I also don’t have any Shu Uemura makeup – it’s not a makeup brand widely available in Australia, which is a bit of a shame.. Buying online can be tricky – it is easier now thanks to makeup blogs and swatches, so I was initially eyeing the Shu Uemura lipstick in MPK 355 because I saw it on Karima’s blog (Shameless Fripperies) and thought ‘ooooooo’ 🙂 It had a slight sheen – so wasn

The Jojoba Company’s 100% Natural Australian Jojoba

Oils have definitely become popular in the last couple of years (think argan oil, coconut oil) and I think it’s because natural-bio cosmetics have also increased in popularity. I’m all for finding suitable natural alternatives when it comes to skin care, however I am very cautious when it comes to the hype because natural but effective skin care is actually very difficult to get right. That would be for a few reasons: one, is that the same ingredient grown in different region

Review: Bioderma’s Photoderm SPF 30 Sun Spray (for Sensitive Skin) & Delicious Tea Craft

Trying to be extra sun savvy this summer (as all beauty bees should strive to be!) I figured that if wearing sunscreen everyday is super important, then going out into the hot sun with only a protected face isn’t the most sun savvy. My arms, shoulders and décolletage tend to be exposed on very hot days, so I was looking for a body sunscreen that I could wear almost every day to. Some people might ask why not just use your face sunscreen on your body, however they tend to be s

Oldie but a Goodie: Nars Multiple in Portofino

I mentioned in my first post of 2014, that one of my ‘resolutions’ for this year was to appreciate more of the makeup products that I own and try to rotate them around more often. We waste so much in general and while I think of my makeup as a ‘collection’, it definitely doesn’t get all the love that it deserves! I’ve decided that when I’m sulking about not being able to buy a new release item or when I’m trying with all my power to resist buying something – to find a hidden

Nails of the Day: Samoan Sands

This is one of my all time favourite shades! If I had to pick one shade of nail polish to wear for the rest of my life, it would be OPI’s Samoan Sands, hands down. It’s the perfect nude – with a blend of pinks and beiges. It suits every outfit and occasion and just looks so sophisticated! The first coat of this polish may look a bit streaky on your nails, but it all evens out with a second coat. The formula is a little bit on the thicker side, so if you pile it on your nails

Nails of the Day: Viva Pink & Desert Cacti Inspiration

Another permanent colour in Avon’s Nailwear Pro collection and one of my favourites is Viva Pink! It’s a true vibrant, blue toned bubble gum pink. It’s a great formula and not streaky in its finish. You will need two coats to get an opaque layer though. Avon says the nail polish should last up to 12 days but I would say it lasts about 5-7 days, which mind you, is still pretty good! And it’s a bargin at $9.95 Aus monies (in the latest brochure). It’s a colour that screams summ

Review: Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof & Some Beach Inspiration

Before I begin, why did Maybelline decide to leave off the e in volume? I just noticed that so I had to mention it because it strikes me as very odd slash stupid. Anyways, a waterproof mascara is a must in summer or if you live in a very humid and hot climate. Good waterproof mascaras are hard to find. I picked this one up at the chemist (pharmacy) just randomly before going on my weekend getaway and wasn’t expecting much – except that it was to stay put at the beach. The las
